I know a few of the boys (and girls) have coached before or done some of their coaching courses.
As some of you may know I done my first one last year and have been appointed as coach for one of the mens sides this year at my club.
Just wondering what formations you other coaches out there prefer to play and see?
Personally at the moment I'm going to be playing a 4-3-3 because its fairly adaptable and I think allows you to play some good attacking football. Plus it can easily convert into a 4-5-1 if you need to be a bit more defensive.

The choice of formation depends on what players you have available.
What are your team's strengths?
Play a formation that fits your players rather than trying to fit players into a formation.

I have a fair few wingers who will be used as my RF and LF. So it actually fit in well, just struggling to find myself a defensive midfielder but I'll sort that out. I think with the players I have the formation fits in well so hopefully all goes to plan!

Good luck Milan. Just remember that man management is just as important as well.

Thanks Tez. Man management is half the job! I played with some of the boys last year so I dunno if it'll be harder or easier coaching some of my mates. Plus I'm player/coach so I think having a good relationship with all the players will be vital.

Agree 100% with Pandemic... I think the 433 will keep you in line with the direction of where FFA want us all to be heading, but you have to use the best formation for the cattle you have available... its the same with tactics (which dictates formation of course)...
If Adelaide win the AFC and plays Barcelona in the World Club Championship, they would not consider playing 433, nor should they...nor should they try to play a possesion game, they'd be slaughtered

firstly milan good on you for taking on coaching, i did it last season wont be doing it this season though - i never did the course but with the team i had we had really one good striker and some good defenders so i played a 4-2-3-1 against the better teams and a 4-3-3 or even 4-4-2 against some of the teams where we didnt need to muscle up in the back.. theres different stylles suited to different players etc as you lot all know... woulld be good doing a coaching course though! maybe ill do it when tom starts playing,

Ahh had my first game as a coach/player today. Played one of last years gun sides and we were missing 4 of our players including 2/3 of the first choice defenders so it wa snever going to be easy.
I made a decision to play an attacking 4-2-3-1 and it wasn't too bad. We went down 1-0 after about 30mins and then missed a penalty (including the retake).. then a glorious chance on half time.
Second half we dominated for the first 20minutes but couldnt score, then they scored a couple of goal before we finally hit back, they then scored 2 more goals in the last 5-10 minutes, including an amazing chip (which id like to see done again one day). Final score was 5-1... but looking at the positives was that we created alot of chances when we played to our style and another good thing for me is that i can now coach the team how i want them play and over the next month before the season starts we will be in good shape.
